Embracing Mother Earth and Creating Harmony with Nature

Embracing Mother Earth and Creating Harmony with Nature

Mother Earth Day is not just about doing our bit for the environment or reducing our carbon footprint; it is about changing our relationship with the planet and accepting the sacredness of nature and to realise that we are not custodians of nature, we are nature

In 2009, the United Nations General Assembly proclaimed 22 April as International Mother Earth Day. In doing so, it acknowledges that the Earth and its ecosystems are our common home, and that it is necessary to promote harmony with nature in order to achieve balance among the economic, social, and environmental needs of present and future generations.

The idea behind Mother Earth Blend was to embrace the values of International Mother Earth Day which raises global awareness of the challenges of the planet and all the life it supports.

However, many of us in the West struggle to understand the true meaning of Mother Earth, in the same way that it is understood by indigenous peoples around the world. It is not just about doing our bit for the environment or reducing our carbon footprint; it is about changing our relationship with the planet and accepting the sacredness of nature and to realise that we are not custodians of nature, we are nature.

I have often stated that people are often drawn to aromatherapy because of a desire to reconnect with nature. I believe the scent of essential oils evoke a deep spiritual connection our ancestors and indigenous peoples of the world have always had with nature.

In my book, The Complete Guide to Aromatherapy, Vol III – Psyche and Subtle, I have a chapter on the need to ‘re-shamanise’ aromatherapy. There is a very important section in this chapter where I refer to the wisdom of Johanna Lambert, editor of a beautiful book, Wise Women of Dreamtime – Aboriginal Tales of the Ancestral Past who claims the feminine must be empowered in order to allow this reconnection with nature and the earth.

This wisdom is repeated in Vandana Shiva’s classic 1988 book Staying Alive: Women, Ecology and Survival in India, who states that women and nature have been the victims of male-dominated patriarchal society, and it is only through the recovery of the feminine principle that we can embrace the sacredness of nature.
I often like to express my feelings and opinions through the blends that I create. In creating Mother Earth blend, a unique synergy of cardamom, geranium, sweet orange, rose absolute, patchouli and vetiver, it was my vision to create a scent that reminds us the importance of harmony and balance with nature. The rich, warm, floral, and earthy scent of Mother Earth blend reconnects us with the feminine nurturing aspect of nature which is quintessentially ‘Mother Earth’.

What is in the blend

Rose absolute is the heart and soul of this blend. It embodies the divine feminine, the quintessential qualities of ‘Mother Earth’.
When we feel burdened with the despair and a sense that humankind is not doing enough to protect Mother Earth, the warm invigorating spicy aroma of cardamom gives us the courage and confidence to be responsible custodians of Mother Earth.
Delightful sweet orange reminds us that Mother Earth is vibrant and abundant

Geranium promotes harmony and balance as well as feminine nurturing qualities

Grounding qualities are promoted with patchouli which also helps to heal the common disconnect from our body and nature
Vetiver is used to help allow us to experience a deep connection with all life.

I am truly grateful for the opportunity to share with you Mother Earth blend. As you envelop yourself with the scent of Mother Earth, I hope that you feel one with nature.
